Many Hands Make Light Work

Volunteers come to the shop for many different reasons. Some have spent a lifetime working and finally have time to share; some are new to town and are looking for ways to connect with the community; and some are brought in by a friend. What all of our volunteers find is the joy of helping others and the wonderful gift of teamwork.

As the Service Center enters an exciting time of expansion to build a new space for the Clothing & Household Assistance Program, the support of the volunteer teams at Hand in hand (Hnh) becomes even more vital. Each day the volunteers receive and sort thousands of donated items. Some donations are sold at the Thrift Shop to financially support the Service Center and others are shared directly with clients at no cost.

Over time, we have seen more and more volunteers donate their time at both Hnh and FSC. They track donated items from the donation bay at the shop to delivery into the hands of grateful clients. The synergy and energy created by these volunteers is truly inspiring!

In Their Own Words:

It’s very rewarding to know that the countless donations I sort at Hnh are sold at an affordable price to raise money for the food pantry and that many are also given away at FSC to those who need them the most. There is no place I’d rather volunteer my time

I’ve met someone by volunteering who has become a total inspiration in my life. I look forward to every shift we get to work together. I’ve made a friend for life.

Volunteering at Hnh and FSC has added a whole new dimension to my life. It takes a community, and I have received so much support and friendship here, I think we have that community.
