Quick Bites: Fall 2022

50th Anniversary Falmouth Road Race

On August 21st, FSC’s 20 member Road Race team joined thousands of runners at the starting line to kick off the 50th running of the ASICS Falmouth Road Race.

We welcomed returning runners this year, as well as numerous new friends. Families run together in support of our work in the community. We are grateful to our team for partnering with us and raising over $28,000!

A special thank you to all who donated in support of our racers this year!

AIDS Support Group of Cape Cod Partners with FSC

Might you need information about Narcan training or a supply of Narcan? Might you be in need of harm reduction services?

Each Wednesday afternoon, you’ll find the ASGCC's large, white mobile van with the bright red life ring emblazoned on the side parked in the FSC lot during our grocery distribution hours.

The ASGCC team reports an increased number of visits to the van each week, and the executive director has expressed his appreciation for the support his staff have received at FSC. This partnership is an important one to us; if you’d like more information, we encourage you to visit: asgcc.org

FSC’s Fresh Start Back-to-School Program

247 local students received new backpacks with school supplies thanks to the generosity of our Upper Cape community. This community includes loyal donors to the program, as well as our local Staples store, where many of the supplies are purchased.

I love this collaboration,” said Sara Hines from Eight Cousins Books, “because I get to see firsthand the excitement of the children when they visit our mini Book Fair at FSC.

We love this program too, because it allows us to continue an important partnership with the public schools and with our volunteers who have supported this program for 17 years.

Falmouth Service Center Community Services Scholarship in Honor of Brenda Swain

Maya G. and Haylee S. are the recipients of this Scholarship established by the FSC Board in honor of our past executive director Brenda Swain.

This fall, Maya is attending Coastal Carolina University as a pre-medical school student, while Haylee will head to Providence, RI where she will attend Johnson & Wales University to major in addiction counseling. We are proud to partner with the Falmouth Scholarship Association in their annual program; we thank all those involved in the selection process and wish much success to Maya and Haylee as they begin this new and exciting chapter in their education.

WE CAN and the Coalition for Children at FSC

Another Wednesday afternoon partnership has formed on the third Wednesday of each month when representatives of WE CAN and the Coalition for Children come together at FSC in support of women and families. WE CAN offers free legal services, financial empowerment and other workshops for women across Cape Cod; the Coalition for Children provides mentoring and referrals; parent support; and playgroups for families. You will also see lots of caregivers and kids on the FSC campus on those Wednesdays enjoying a game of tag, reading together and playing with bubbles. The camaraderie of the experience is one of the many benefits of this new collaboration. For more information, be sure to visit: wecancenter.org or thecoalitionforchildren.org.
